Two killed as aircraft crashes in Hyderabad

CHOPPER CRASH: The helicopter took off before noon and crashed within minutes.
Hyderabad: A trainee pilot and an instructor were killed when a small aircraft crashed on to a residential area of the city on Monday.
The mishap took place in Sanathnagar neighbourhood minutes after the aircraft belonging to Andhra Pradesh Flying Club took off from Begumpet airport.
Police said the instructor and the trainee pilot died in the crash. There were no casualties on the ground.
The aircraft crashed amid houses, sending panic among people in the densely populated area. The aircraft caught fire immediately after the crash. Part of the debris fell on a few houses.
Eyewitnesses said they heard a deafening sound. Hundreds of people gathered at the mishap site.
The Begumpet airport was shut down for commercial operations in March this year after the new international airport became operational at Shamshabad, about 35 km from the city. The old airport is being used for non-commercial operations
