London: Nicolas Sarkozy is said to one of the flamboyant Presidents France ever had. But a new book has claimed that he is a "brute".

According to the book, Sarkozy has had "brutal" exchanges with his wives and past lovers -- in fact, one row with the then 51-year-old wife Cecilia in the run-up to the presidential polls last year even led to a police complaint.

Though no action was taken against Sarkozy, the book - Love, Rupture and Betrayal - says that the 53-year-old was warned by the then French Interior Minister that the complaint had been filed.

Cecilia famously did not vote for her husband in the poll. The couple divorced in October 2007. Sarkozy married his third wife, ex-model Carla Bruni, 40, in February this year after almost a year-long whirlwind romance.

The book, penned by respected author Hubert Coudurier, also claims that Sarkozy demanded another lover get his things ready for him in the morning, because he was used to his wife waiting on him, The Sun reported.

"Sarkozy can be very nice. But there is also another, more impulsive side. He can get carried away. He is extremely considerate to people when they're on his side. But he can also be brutal," the author said.

However, since the arrival of Bruni, presidential aides say that Sarkozy's mood has greatly improved. Even the former Italian supermodel had said: "How would I want to have a man who is 53 years old not to have a past? He would be a strange man."

However, the Elyse Palace has refused to comment on the book's claims.
