OBCs coming under creamy layer are denied the benefits of reservation and one of the criteria of defining the creamy layer is the annual income. Earlier those who earned more than Rs 2.5 lakh per annum were included in the creamy layer. But the Central Government on Friday decided to increase the income limit to Rs 4.5 lakh bringing in more people in the quota hold. The move is seen as a sop to the OBCs ahead of the election season.
