India lost one of its greatest modern playwrights, Vijay Tendulkar on Sunday. Tendulkar’s death is almost a metaphor for the death of a certain kind of theatre, a theatre of political radicalism and passionate social commitment. With his death, perhaps that kind of theatre has died as well, for Vijay Tendulkar spoke out clearly where few dared to even murmur.
He was a writer who explored radical political and social themes.
