In Firozabad town, in Western UP, a Dalit woman was burnt alive by upper-caste men on Thursday night. Jeevan Shri's neighbours, who belong to the Dabang caste, set fire to her after her son eloped with a girl from their caste. Before she died in a local hospital, Jeevan Shri managed to make a statement to the police. Police have now registered a case of murder based on the statement. Jeevan Shri's neighbour Rajbir Yadav, the prime suspect, has run away.
