Boxer M C Marykom is one of India’s greatest sporting heroes. She won the gold medal in the Women’s World Boxing Championship thrice: 2002 in Turkey, 2005 in Austria and 2006 in Delhi. But no life in the limelight for this champ—she lives in obscurity in a village in Imphal.
Two-time world champion boxer M C Marykom was awarded the Padmashree the same year as Sania Mirza but hardly gets a mention.
