Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has commuted all death sentences to life imprisonment, according to Pakistani Prime Minister's Office. The immediate beneficiaries could be two Indian prisoners on death row in Pakistan - Sarabjit Singh and Kirpal Singh. Sarabjit has already served more than 17 years in prison. Reacting to the news, former Pakistan human rights minister Ansar Burney said he would like to thank the Pakistani government for this move.
Family members say Kirpal crossed the border accidentally in 1991 under the influence of liquor.
